Action Launcher 3 is a third-party launcher for Android, developed by Action Launcher. As we all know, Android is a big, open-source operating system for Android devices such as smartphones, tablets, etc. That being said, there are numerous possibilities for editing and downloading various applications that can enhance the overall user experience. There are many launchers for Android, but one of the most popular one today is Action Launcher 3, which we are going to review today. So, is it capable of delivering great performance, are there many customization options, are there any new features, does it have regular updates? Well, stick around and find out in our Action Launcher 3 review.
Action Launcher 3 Interface
Action Launcher 3 is the newest of the several in the series with advanced customization options and of course a great interface filled with colors. The customization options are unlimited with the usage of the most unique and beautiful icons on top. With the ability to choose from different icon modes and designs, the Action Launcher lets you make your Android devices look exactly like you always wanted them to be. It will work on any of the devices running Android whether it’s a smartphone or an Android-powered tablet. Unlike many other android launchers out there, Action doesn’t slow down your device or make conflicts with other applications on the device.
Action Launcher 3 Features
This one is tough to write, as Android Launcher 3 has many new and updated features, but hey, we must start from somewhere.
This is one of the most useful features in Action Launcher 3. While Android OS allows you to drag a Google search bar on your home screen, this launcher will allow you to add apps to this Google bar. This is a great feature because it can save a lot of space on your home screen, plus there is a possibility of searching these apps using your voice. I tried it, and it works great.
Action Launcher 3 has this unique and very useful feature, which I’m sure, you’ll be using a lot. It’s a sort of another home screen, but it isn’t exactly like one, as it can be accessed via a swipe from the right edge of the screen. Here you can add whatever widgets you like. For example, I liked to add Notes, to be able to keep track of my list, where I usually take note of my future plans, schedules, etc.
Quicktheme is a great feature for enhancing the look of your Android environment. Sometimes, we all get bored by seeing the same colors, themes, and wallpapers on our smartphones, and we like to change it, sometimes very often. With Quicktheme, it now becomes easier. Quicktheme serves as a tool for extracting the color from your background and applying it to the complete user interface (UI). This means that every time you change your wallpaper, the overall UI color will change. This is even more interesting with live wallpapers.
This feature diverts from a classic Android look, and relies more on that Windows feel, as it’s the substitute for app drawer. However, this isn’t bad by any means and in my opinion, it’s a lot more efficient and faster than the old-fashioned app drawer. Here, you can arrange the apps by name or most-used apps, which is great if you want fast access to your apps at any time. This works great, plus there is a possibility to drag and drop your apps to a home screen. Apps can also be hidden from the drawer, which is a great addition to Quickdrawer.
Possibility to edit icons is one of the major features in every launcher for Android, and Action Launcher 3 boasts this feature too. Icons can be edited from home screen, by long-pressing on the icon. From there, you can edit app information, app label (name) or its icon. Icons can be fetched from the installed icon pack, which will open automatically if you choose to edit it. This is the feature I like the most, as there is no need for searching a long list of icons. The app will often give you the suggested icons for your app, which will make the job a lot easier. If you like to experiment with icons and create your own environment, you’ll like this feature a lot.
Shutters are often in this kind of app, because of those who like to keep their home screen clean. Because I also like that, I found this feature rather useful and simple to use. What shutter essentially does, is hiding a widget behind an app, which isn’t visible on a home screen. However, you can access it by swiping up on the icon you’ve hidden your widget behind. Unfortunately, you can add just one widget here, but I still found it somewhat useful, as it can clean up your home screen space. Once you are done with the app, just swipe down for hiding the widget again.
Gestures and shortcuts customization
Customization of gestures and shortcuts can dramatically simplify device usage. This works by assigning the app to a corresponding gesture, and will only work on the home screen. Some of the gestures are double-tap, pinch in, pinch out, swipe up, swipe down, swipe with two fingers and much more. For example, you can open your music app by double-tapping the screen, or enter Settings by pinching in.
This feature isn’t the most useful feature, but it’s a welcome addition to Action Launcher 3. It basically fixes the problem of the icons being of different sizes. Smartsize does this by automatically resizing icons, to fit your preferred grid.
- Updated and new features
- Regular updates
- Excellent customization possibilities
- The relatively cheap basic app
- Not completely free
- Most features are locked and require purchasing
Do you remember those 4 questions from the introduction? Well, I think we already gave the answers to them. Action Launcher 3 is indeed a great launcher for Android, delivering astonishing performance at a relatively cheap price. However, most of the fancy features require a purchase, which I personally don’t like. Aside from that, there are regular updates and bug fixes, with tons of options for customization. Sure, you can find many free launchers for Android, but in my opinion, Action Launcher 3 is one of the best you can find on the market. Before buying it, just make sure that your device is supported, that it has sufficient RAM and read our review. In my opinion, Action Launcher 3 has everything that average user needs, at a price, of course.
